KNF joins the fight against #fakenews in the financial market

So far, the joint project of PAP and GovTech Polska concerned the fight against spreading disinformation about the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Any Internet user who sees any news on the Internet on the coronavirus pandemic with a low level of credibility can report it to #FakeHunter. As a result of such a submission, the news is verified and properly discussed in a report by social verifiers. The KNF noticed a wide and positive response of the campaign from the general public and therefore decided to join the project. The subject matter of the service will be extended by issues related to financial security.

„Seeing the problem of fake news as a real threat to the security of the state’s financial system, we decided to cooperate with the Polish Press Agency and GovTech Polska. We are committed to limiting the chain of false information so that it does not infect other recipients. We have to put a kind of dam to it” – says Kamil Mroczka, General Director in the Office of the Financial Supervision Authority.

In an era of dispersion of informational content and systemic instability, also related to pandemic, it is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. We, the Internet users, will have to find out if the dam built in this way will be tight.
