Motorway – no more tolls at the gates?

On the gov. pl website we read that the Head of KAS (National Tax Administration) took over the duties related to toll collection on two sections: Konin – Stryków on the A2 motorway and Bielany Wrocławskie – Sośnica on the A4 motorway.

As a result of this fact, the toll collection system is subject to overall changes. The Ministry of Finance plans to introduce two possibilities of paying for a motorway ride:

1. purchase of a motorway ticket,
2. on the basis of geolocation data transferred to the Electronic Toll Collection System of KAS, similarly as it is the case for heavy vehicles, e.g.: vehicles with a high speedway using the free mobile application.

A motorway ticket will be available to buy online e. g. trough Internet service, self-service terminals, mobile application, but also at petrol stations or kiosks.

The Ministry states that the earliest possible date for ceasing toll collection by manual means is the 4th quarter of 2021. Toll settlement for light vehicles in the Electronic Toll Collection System may be available earlier.
