Coal import in 2018 increase again by 50% !

Statistics show that coal import to Poland may exceed domestic production in just three years.

Lack of public investment in mining and the Government’s negative attitude to private investment initiatives led to a situation where the increase in coal import to Poland has raised abruptly again. In 2018, the increase in import amounted to almost 50%, and a year earlier almost 60%. At the same time, domestic coal mining decreased regularly.

Unofficial statistics show that in 2018, 19.7 million tons of coal were imported to Poland. In 2017, coal import amounted to 13.3 million tons, which gives a nearly 50% increase in coal import in comparison to the previous year.

The production in Poland in 2018 amounted to 64 million tons of coal, while in 2017 it amounted to 65.5 million tons.
